We offer a flexible probate and estate administration service. We understand that each client will have their own requirements and we are happy to adjust our level of service accordingly.
While many clients retain us to deal with the entirety of the probate and estate administration process, others only need our help with specific tasks, such as applying for the Grant of Probate. Some of this work can be carried out on a fixed fee basis, so you know exactly what the legal costs will be.
If you would like us to deal with the whole estate administration process then this will include:
- Looking after and checking on the deceased’s property (usually weekly for insurance purposes)
- Arranging insurance
- Redirecting post
- Arranging clearance of the property or for items to be sold or given to beneficiaries or charities
- Arranging plumbers, electricians and other tradesman to carry out work on the property in readiness for it to be sold
- Investigating and tracing assets
- Arranging for assets such as cars, jewellery, and property to be professionally valued
- Preparing inheritance tax accounts and arranging for payment of inheritance tax (IHT)
- Applying for the Grant of Representation (Probate)
- Cashing in and closing accounts
- Selling or transferring investments
- Paying debts and liabilities, including utility bills and insurance, until property has been sold
- Paying legacies
- Advising on and administering any Trusts in the Will
- Preparing estate accounts
- Finalising income tax and Capital Gains Tax (CGT) for the administration period
- Distributing the estate
This work is charged at the lawyer’s hourly rate and we will provide an estimate of the expected fee in the free initial meeting.
